Sunil Dutt, the popular actor of his era, has passed away for 18 years. He died on 25 May 2005 due to a

heart attack in Mumbai. A jolly good heart of the 50s, a doting husband, a loving father and a humble philanthropist, this is how Bollywood veteran Sunil Dutt is remembered.

Born on 6 June 1929 in Jhelum, Punjab (now Punjab, Pakistan), Sunil Dutt's real name was Balraj Dutt. When he was only five years old, his father had passed away.

Dutt Sahab often used to talk about his birth and childhood in Pakistan. Sunil Dutt grew up in a village called 'Khurd' near the city of Jhelum in Pakistan.

Sunil Dutt had said in an interview a few days before his death that, when I was just 5 years old my father had died. In my village, Hindus and Muslims lived together without any problem. There were more Muslims than Hindus. During the partition, my entire family was saved by a Muslim named Yakub. Yakub was a friend of my father. He helped us escape to Jhelum, the main town. Later Sunil Dutt settled with his family in Mandauli, a small village in Yamunanagar district of Haryana. Later his family shifted to Lucknow.

During graduation, Sunil Dutt came to Mumbai to make his dreams come true and took admission in Jai Hind College. During this, he also worked in the Best Transport Division. He worked in evergreen films like Mother India, Gumraah, Waqt, Padosan, and Mera Saaya.
