For the first time, a large number of Kashmiri Pandits participated in a Ganesh idols immersion procession on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in Srinagar and Anantnag districts of Kashmir valley on Wednesday.
Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits, including women, travelled in over a hundred vehicles from the Vessu Migrant Colony, carried the Ganesh idol to Sangam, where the idol was peacefully immersed in the water with great religious fervour.
The procession began at 4 PM from the Vessu Migrants Colony covering 11 kms to reach Sangam for the immersion. The event was organized by the Vessu Welfare Committee, representing the Kashmiri Pandits residing in the Anantnag district.
"This is the first time I have witnessed such an occasion in my life. It would not have been possible without the support of our Muslim brethren," Anil Kumar Raina, a participant in the procession, told UNI.
Authorities had made adequate security and other arrangements along the route from Vessu to Sangam to facilitate the smooth conveyance of the Ganesh devotees.
Meanwhile, Siddhivinayak Ganpatyar Mandir Management Committee Srinagar said that the Ganesh Chaturthi, traditionally known as ‘Vinayak Tchoram” was celebrated across the world by the Kashmiri pandits today.
The five-day festival began on August 7 concluded with the Ganesh Visarjan (immersion ceremony) today.
The Ganesha idols processions were also taken out from Ganpatyar Mandir in Srinagar to the Jhelum River at Haba Kadal. The processions were celebrated with great enthusiasm, music, and prayers by the local community. (FROM: UNITED NEWS INDIA)
